Java - licens

From ASPECT4 Foundation 6.5.02 it contains a free version of Java, and going forward all installation packages will be packaged with a free Java version. Foundation older than version 6.5.02

Oracle has announced that from January 2019 it will not be possible to download free Java updates for commercial use.

The last free update will be released on January 15, 2019. It will still be possible to continue running the version(s) of Java that you have running on your environment (recommended Java 8u201 64 bit). Furthermore, we will still offer the Java versions that Oracle has released for free distribution until January 15, 2019.

This means that if you have an AKS that is older than version 6.5.02, including earlier releases, you will be able to continue running on the Java version that can be downloaded from the ASPECT4 client's deployment page and therefore no license charges will be charged or required from Oracle in relation to ASPECT4.

A new installation package has been developed from ASPECT4 AKS 6.5.02 that will contain a free version of Java, and going forward, all installation packages will be packaged with a free Java version.

Oracle has still set up Java to check for updates, which we strongly recommend that you turn off via the Java Control Panel, so that users do not have to decide whether to download a new Java.

Java on IBMi is in no way affected by Oracle's new license terms.
